Weekend and Weekday Classes for P.S. 59 Families
Nine blocks north — a straight run up 2nd Avenue, or four stops on the M15.
P.S. 59 is further from us than the schools immediately around the studio — nine blocks south, on East 56th. That's about twelve minutes on foot straight up 2nd Avenue, or a few stops on the M15 if the weather isn't cooperating.
We'd rather be straight with you: if you need something on the same block as the school, we're not it. What we hear from Beekman Hill families is that the weekday scramble is the hard part, and that a weekend class is far easier to protect than a 4pm one. That's why the slot we'd point you to first is Sunday.
Beekman Hill is an international-minded school, and a good share of our own students and teaching artists come from somewhere else — the studio is run by theater people who trained in Moscow, Buenos Aires and New York. Children who are used to more than one language and culture tend to feel at home quickly.
The class we'd suggest first: Theater, Sunday 1:30 PM
Sunday at 1:30 is the slot we'd suggest first for P.S. 59 families. It takes the commute out of a weekday afternoon entirely, and an early-afternoon start still leaves the rest of the day open.
About the theater classGetting here from P.S. 59 (about 12 minutes walking)
- From East 56th Street, walk to 2nd Avenue.
- Head north nine blocks to East 65th Street — or take the M15 up 2nd and get off at 65th.
- Turn east toward 1st Avenue; we're at 325 East 65th.
One honest note: we are not a daily after-school or childcare program. We don't cover the 3–6pm window every weekday and we don't provide homework help. What we offer is one meaningful class a week that your child looks forward to — the opposite of another full-time commitment.
We may be able to arrange pickup from your child's school. It depends on the day, the dismissal time, and how many families need it — so please ask and we'll work out the details with you directly.
