Theater, Dance and Music for P.S. 6 Families
Crosstown from Madison — the Q from 86th is usually faster than walking.
P.S. 6 sits on East 81st between Madison and Park, which puts us both north and west of you — sixteen blocks down and three long avenue blocks across. On foot that is about twenty minutes. The Q from 86th Street to 63rd is usually quicker, and the M15 works if you are already on the east side of the school.
We mention the route honestly because the distance is the thing families weigh. What we would say in return is that a weekly class twenty minutes away that your child looks forward to beats one five minutes away that they tolerate. P.S. 6 parents are, by reputation, unusually deliberate about this sort of choice.
Groups cap at twelve, taught by working theater artists and dancers, and the term ends with the children performing on a real stage in December rather than in a classroom.
The class we'd suggest first: Dance, Saturday 2:15 PM
Saturday at 2:15 takes ages 7 to 14, which covers the upper half of P.S. 6 — roughly second grade through fifth. A weekend slot also means the crosstown journey happens once, on a day with room in it, rather than being wedged between dismissal and dinner.
About the dance classGetting here from P.S. 6 (about 20 minutes on foot, ~10 by subway)
- From East 81st Street, walk east to Lexington and take the Q downtown from 86th, or the 6 from 77th.
- Get off at 63rd Street–Lexington. Walk east on 63rd, then south on 2nd Avenue to 65th.
- Turn east on 65th — we are at 325, between 1st and 2nd.
One honest note: we are not a daily after-school or childcare program. We don't cover the 3–6pm window every weekday and we don't provide homework help. What we offer is one meaningful class a week that your child looks forward to — the opposite of another full-time commitment.
We may be able to arrange pickup from your child's school. It depends on the day, the dismissal time, and how many families need it — so please ask and we'll work out the details with you directly.
